"Dear Parents,

It's been nearly nine years since I moved halfway around the world to the United States from my home country of South Africa.

The reason I started writing The Journey of Mia is because of my first-hand experiences with the differences between America and South Africa, and how the cultures differ from one another.

It was a real challenge, but there has also been a lot of fun, laughter, and frustration, from learning to drive on the other side of the road to learning different names for food and other things.

And it's still fun when they ask me "Where are you from?"

I'm hoping this book inspires people around the world to explore and learn about other countries and cultures with an open mind. Don't be afraid to make mistakes and laugh as much as you can at your own mistakes.
